In celebration of Tom’s amazing career with the Phone Experts, we decided it would be fun for you to get to know him, check out his mini interview below!
Q: How long have you been with the phone experts and how has your role evolved?
T: I have worked for The Phone Experts for 25 years. I was, in fact, the first telecom technician hired. Before I was hired, Clint, Ivan and Brad were their own technicians. It’s very rewarding to see how the company has grown throughout my employment with them. Technology has changed so much in the past 25 years, and I feel it a privilege to have worked with a company that has supported my ability to keep up with those changes.
Q: What are two of your favourite memories from your 25 years with the Phone Experts?
A: It’s difficult to narrow down my two favorite memories while working for the Phone Experts. There are memories of fun social events, like Christmas parties and golf tournaments. Having a chance to work with my son, Brandon, for a year while he was employed with the company, was a definite highlight for me.
Q: What is your favourite part of your role?
A: I would say the favorite part of my role is relationships. Although I do get satisfaction from learning and implementing technical work, my real satisfaction comes from great relationships with customers and my colleagues.
Q: What do you get up to outside of the Phone Experts?
A: I love to spend time with my family in my spare time. Of course, being a grandfather and spending time with my grandchildren is one of the greatest things. We also love to camp in the summer. I also like to play guitar and have been playing since I was 11 years old.
Q: What is your greatest achievement in your career this far?
A: Over my years with the Phone Experts, I’ve had the opportunity to work with many different employees from time to time. Some have stayed with the company, and some have moved on to different things. I would say my greatest achievement is being able to make a comfortable life for my family here in Central Alberta. The Phone Experts have been a big part of me being able to do this. Right from the first day I was hired, I was offered help, in many ways from the owners, in our move from Drayton Valley to Red Deer in order to work for them. I knew right away this was a family-oriented company with good moral values. This has never changed. I’ve been able to build good relationships with customers and colleagues that will last a lifetime. I look forward to continuing with the Phone Experts for as long as they will have me.
